How-to: Cow Pasture

We knew it was coming, we just didn’t know when. Yes, it seems that the likes of Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings have become the norm for a new weekly feature to come rolling along. This one wound up hitting over 2am our time, which is what we would describe as “super late” compared to the usual 10pm rollout time. This is the Cow Pasture, a brand new Building for Cows, which has enabled the ability to A) keep Calves for yourself, and B) Grow Up your Calves into their adult counterparts for a small FV Cash fee.

Step 1: When you log in today, you will receive a notice that the Cow Pasture has arrived, and it will be time to plop it down on your farm and start building it from scratch. Just once we would love to see one of these monstrosities already assembled, you know? The Cow Pasture is the new replacement for the Dairy Farm, it seems, only that was never a problem in terms of assembly.

Step 2: Once the Cow Pasture has been placed, it is time to gather up all of those materials in order to piece it together. This time around you will need the likes of 10 Stones (easy to find from your neighbors, given the new Lighthouse Cove also uses them), 10 Hay Bundles, and 10 Tin Sheets. Don’t know how to get materials? Well, there are many ways. Try sending some to your friends via the Free Gifts page and see if they will send some back, Look Inside the Cow Pasture and click on the “Ask for More” button (select Single Parts, though, as those with Triple Parts do not play FarmVille), or patrol your Facebook feed to see if any neighbors are giving parts away.

Step 3: You’ll receive an Irish Moiled Cow as a prize for completing it. You will be able to place your various Cows in this new Building, though we don’t see it as an upgrade in terms of capacity; we can hold 40 in our current Dairy Farm and this Cow Pasture only holds 20 max – half that of our Dairy Farm, which does not need to be put together. With this done, you now have a choice of trading in your Dairy Farm for the three new Red Brown Cows and some Animal Feed. The Dairy Farm will no longer produce Calves for new Cows that are released, but will still produce Calves for Cows released prior to the arrival of the Cow Pasture.
Weigh the pros and cons in trading your barn in:
Pros:
A) You will receive new Cows in the three Red Brown Cows
B) Having the Dairy Farm AND the Cow Pasture takes up space on your farm
C) Free Animal Feed, albeit not a lot
D) It will no longer produce Calves for new Cows that are released
Cons:
1) You will need two Cow Pastures in order to fit all of your Cows.
2) If you don’t have two Cow Pastures, the space the Cows will take on your actual farm by themselves is staggering.
3) You will need to put another one together.
4) You can now get Calves for yourself in addition to giving them to friends.

Step 4: By now, we’re sure you’re all accustomed to seeing the long list of applicable Animals to go within the new Animal Buildings. Here is the list of the Cows and other Animal types that can be stuffed in this Building: Candy Cane Cow, Irish Moiled Cow, Holiday Cow, Panda Cow, Autumn Cow, Belted Cow, Fairy Cow, Blue Cow, Chrome Cow, Cow, Devon Cow, Hereford Cow, Highland Cow, Milking Shorthorn, Mohawk Cow, Mohawk Cow, Pineywoods Cow, Robot Cow, Sailor Cow, Western Longhorn, American Cow, Ayrshire Cow, B0v1n3-11, B0V1NE-09, Black Angus Bull, Black Shorthorn Cow, Black Yak, Brown Cow, Brown Swiss Cow, Bull, Canadienne Cow, Charolais Cow, Chocolate Cow, Dexter Cow, English Cow, Disco Cow, Fall Cow, Fan Cow, Flower Cow, Galician Blond Cow, Gelbvieh Cow, Gray Jersey Cow, Gray Yak, Green Patch Cow, Groovy Cow, Guernsey Cow, Holstein Cow, Indian Yak, Jersey Cow, Kelly Green Cow, Kerry Cow, New Year’s Cow, Longhorn Cow, Neapolitan Cow, Norwegian Red Cow, Ox, Pink Cow, Pink Patch Cow, Purple Cow, Purple Valentine Cow, Rainbow Cow, Red Brown Cow, Red Cow, Randall Bull, Red Heart Cow, Referee Cow, Referee Cow (Pinstripes), Shorthorn Cow, Simmental Cow, Small Cow, Small Holstein Cow, Tuscan Cow, Valentine Cow, Vineyard Cow, Welsh Black Cow, and Yellow Cow.

Step 5: Place some of those Cows into your new Cow Pasture. As previously stated, the main hook with this one is that you will receive a Calf for yourself, never again having to worry about grabbing a rare Calf from a neighbor; if you own that Cow, Yak, Ox, or Bull, you can get its baby version all by yourself. Pretty cool, huh? Furthermore, Calf and Foal Mastery is on the way as a result of this. So needless to say, this is the biggest advantage to this new Building. When your Building is ready, give it a check to see if you found a Calf. As you can see, we got a Holiday Calf from our Holiday Cow. If so, the Calf will appear on your farm! No feeding it Bottles or Animal Feed, it will automatically be there, ready to be placed, in addition to sharing it with your friends! Now that IS pretty cool, we must admit. You can even Grow Up your Calves by using the Grow Up button in their menu for 5 FV Cash.
What are your thoughts on the new Cow Pasture? We’re split on it, personally; we LOVE getting Calves ourselves, but we think the max 20 capacity is REALLY stupid since there are 13 pages of Cows on the Look Inside menu. That’s 76 compatible Animals, meaning you would need FOUR Cow Pastures if you only had one of every Animal. Nuts.
